Last Monday, 23rd of August I had the pleasure to be part of the Sustainable Model Series: Short Conversations, Big Impact created by Models Trust, an independent organization that works with the fashion industry to safeguard models at their place of work.
El pasado lunes 23 de Agosto tuve el placer de ser parte de la Serie Modelos Sostenibles: Pequeñas Conversaciones, Gran Impacto creada por Models Trust, una organización independiente que trabaja con la industria de la moda para salvaguardar a las modelos en nuestro lugar de trabajo.

La serie Modelos Sostenibles es donde Models Trust habla con pioneros que están teniendo un impacto positivo en la industria de la moda y el modelaje y encuentran soluciones a los problemas actuales de la industria.
In this serie we talked about Size Inclusivity in The Modelling Industry and I had the pleasure to be interviewed by Renée, the Engagement Manager at Models Trust.
En esta serie hablamos sobre la inclusión de las tallas en la industria del modelaje y tuve el placer de ser entrevistado por Renée, la manager de relaciones de Models Trust.
First of all I would like to thank Models Trust and specially Renée who made this happen. I am so grateful for being part of this positive impact in the fashion and modelling industry and I hope with my interview we can keep improving the industry towards body positive and self-confidence.
En primer lugar, me gustaría agradecer a Models Trust y especialmente a Renée, quien hizo que esto sucediera. Estoy muy agradecida por ser parte de este impacto positivo en la industria de la moda y el modelaje y espero que con mi entrevista podamos seguir mejorando la industria hacia una relación más sana con nuestro cuerpo y la confianza en nosotros mismos.
We talked about the obstacles I faced as a curve model at the beginning of my career, how did I overcame them, what I learned, the different markets for curve models, I shared some career advices for aspiring curve models and we talked about how we can improve how we navigate size inclusivity and representation. We also talked about my future plans.

- Renée: Your journey to success wasn’t easy and as a curve model you faced many challenges. Can you share some of the obstacles you faced, how you overcame them, and what you learned from those challenging experiences?
Renée: Tu camino hacia el éxito no ha sido fácil y, como modelo curvy, enfrentaste muchos desafíos. ¿Puede compartir algunos de los obstáculos a los que te enfrentaste, cómo los superaste y qué aprendiste de esas experiencias desafiantes?
Alba: Yes, as a curve model I faced many challenges. My biggest obstacles were “recognising” that I am a curve woman and model. I tried to have others models body and I compared myself to others models. Finding my place was also one of the biggest challenges that I faced.
I overcame them practicing self-love and self-confidence. I learned that I am who I am and what makes me different makes me unique and I am focusing on that.
Alba: Sí, como modelo curvy me enfrenté y enfrento a muchos desafíos. Mis mayores obstáculos fueron “reconocer” que soy una mujer con curvas. Intenté tener el cuerpo de otras modelos y me comparaba con otras modelos. Encontrar mi lugar también fue uno de los mayores desafíos a los que me enfrenté.
Los superé practicando amor propio y confianza en mí mismo. Aprendí que soy quien soy y lo que me hace diferente me hace único y me estoy enfocando en eso.
2. Renée: You learned what your strengths were as a model and what set you apart from others. How did you find your strengths as a model and use it to excel in the modelling industry?
Renée: Aprendiste cuáles son tus fortalezas como modelo y qué te distingue de los demás. ¿Cómo descubriste tus fortalezas como modelo y cómo las utilizas para sobresalir en la industria del modelaje?
Alba: when I started loving myself as I am and realising how unique I am. Just giving me the value I deserve and I want others to see, and being focus on myself. I am also a professional in Communication and Fashion Management so when I work I understand what the brand wants from inside out. I am a very social person so I like to communicate with the team I am working with to be sure everything is good.
Alba: cuando empecé a quererme tal como soy y a darme cuenta de lo única que soy. Simplemente dándome el valor que merezco y quiero que los demás vean y concentrándome en mí. También soy profesional en Comunicación y Gestión de Moda por lo que cuando trabajo entiendo lo que la marca quiere. Soy una persona muy sociable, así que me gusta comunicarme con el equipo con el que trabajo para asegurarme de que todo esté bien.
3. Renée: how was your experience working as a curve model in Spain and other markets?
Renée: ¿cómo fue tu experiencia trabajando como modelo curvy en España y otros mercados?
Alba: Every market is different. I worked in Europe, UAE and Bali with clients from Australia. In Spain, I worked with good national clients and there are size inclusive projects happening but I feel the amount of clients are less so the market is less active. I feel that the industry is more active internationally. In Australia the shoot a lot bikini campaigns which I fit very well. I also work and worked in UAE where the market is not that well known but blooming. They are taking a lot about Size Inclusivity now so it is a good market too. Overall I feel Size Inclusivity is everywhere.
Alba: Cada mercado es diferente. Trabajé en Europa, Emiratos Árabes Unidos y Bali con clientes de Australia. En España, trabajé con buenos clientes nacionales y hay proyectos en los que se cuenta con modelos con curvas, pero siento que la cantidad de clientes es menor, por lo que el mercado es menos activo. Siento que la industria es más activa a nivel internacional. En Australia rodamos muchas campañas de bikini, un rol en el que encajo muy bien. También trabajo y trabajé en los Emiratos Árabes Unidos, donde el mercado no es tan conocido pero está creciendo. Ahora están apostando mucho por la inclusión de las tallas, por lo que también es un buen mercado. En general, siento que la inclusión de las tallas está en todas partes.
4. Renée: What career advice do you have for models who are curvy and new to the modelling industry? Specially for those interested in international markets.
Renée: ¿Qué consejo profesional tienes para aspirantes a modelo curvy nuevas en la industria del modelaje? Especialmente para aquellas interesados en los mercados internacionales.
Alba: for new curvy models I recommend: You Do You. Be You. Empower yourself. Understand your profile and your strengths. Go for it!
If you want to work internationally, is important to understand your profile and research for markets that are active. Some markets are seasonal as well. Talk to other curvy models so you can know from their experience how those different markets are.
Alba: para nuevas modelos curvy recomiendo: Sé tu. Empodérate. Entiende y conocer tu perfil y tus fortalezas. ¡Ve a por ello!
Si quieres trabajar a nivel internacional, es importante comprender tu perfil e investigar los mercados que están activos. Algunos mercados también son estacionales. Habla con otras modelos curvy para que puedas saber por su experiencia cómo son esos diferentes mercados.
5. Renée: How can brands, agencies, and others in the fashion industry, including Models Trust, improve how they navigate size inclusivity and representation?
Renée: ¿Cómo pueden las marcas, agencias y todos nosotros, en la industria de la moda, incluida Models Trust, mejorar la forma en que navegan por la inclusión y la representación de tallas?
Alba: I think everyone involved in the fashion industry should remember that is an industry created by people for people so we should be aware of what the population is asking for.
Self-love and health. We should make those a must when it becomes thinking of modelling. At the end of the day all of us want to make this industry a place where everyone feels safe and most of it confidence.
Alba: Creo que todos los involucrados en la industria de la moda debemos recordar que es una industria creada por personas para personas, por lo que debemos ser conscientes de lo que está pidiendo la población.
Amor propio y salud. Deberíamos hacerlos imprescindibles cuando se trata de pensar en modelar. Al final del día, todos queremos hacer de esta industria un lugar donde todos se nos sintamos seguros y confiados.
6. Renée: What are your plans for the future? Where do you want to be in the next few years?
Renée: ¿Cuáles son tus planes para el futuro? ¿Dónde quieres estar en los próximos años?
Alba: Well, we never know what can happen tomorrow but I have plans to keep working as a model for few years more for sure. I want to move and work in the US market and keep travelling and enjoying this beautiful career while helping others. I am working on becoming a model advisor or coach as I want to help aspiring models with advices. Building a community and a fashion brand are also things that I want to do. So let´s see!! 🙂
Alba: Bueno, nunca sabemos qué puede pasar mañana pero tengo planes de seguir trabajando como modelo unos años más seguro. Quiero mudarme y trabajar en el mercado Estadounidense y seguir viajando y disfrutando de esta hermosa carrera mientras ayudo a los demás. Estoy trabajando para convertirme en asesor o coach de modelos, ya que quiero ayudar a los aspirantes a modelos con consejos. Construir una comunidad y una marca de moda también son cosas que quiero hacer. ¡¡Así que, ya veremos!! 🙂
